The location of the house:
The country house 'Casa Horta Velha' stands on the south slope of 'Serra de Monchique', not far from Foia, the highest mountain in the Algarve. From here you have a breathtaking panoramic view over the southwest of Portugal.
Far away from the tourist bustle, the house is nestled in cork oak and eucalyptus forests with stunning views of the south coast and the sea and the surrounding wooded mountains. Here you can also observe the rich birdlife and other native animals.
Casa Horta Velha is set in 1.5 hectares of terraced land, which is intersected by a fairly deep valley with a stream. From the patio you can look directly down into this valley, the slope is covered with fruit and olive trees, cork oaks and on the ground with eucalyptus and acacia trees.
From the 'new house' you can also see past the hills down to the south coast, you look over the city Portimao on the sea.
Above the house there is a cork oak grove through which a steep sloping paved driveway meanders down to the house.
